Swiss Design Collab with Atelier Mirla

Two exclusive carpet designs were created in collaboration with Atelier Mirla from Basel.

A carpet from nature - rustling leaves in autumn when the trees lose their foliage; soft, lush moss on which we want to walk barefoot; a sandy bottom in a riverbed or thousands of grasses under our feet in a summer meadow.

Nature knows countless forms of "carpets" and when I was asked by TGIFW if I could develop a motif for their new collection, I quickly realised that I wanted to work with the theme of our soil and its different forms.

I collected flowers, picked up leaves, picked grasses and experimented in my studio. The result is a grass rug that is meant to bring a reminder of our so wonderful nature into the home as well as to support a contemporary interior in its abstractness. As always, the colour, size and motif detail can be adapted to suit your own home.

The basis for the new rug has been created using wild grasses, oil paint and the tools of intaglio printing. An ancient craft that allows me to bring the subtleties of nature to paper. The grasses leave a fine relief and every stalk, every ear of corn, every fibre of the plant is printed with all its details on the handmade paper. "Monotype" is the name given to the technique, i.e. a "single" "print" that can be made, as unique as every grass and flower in nature.

I would be extremely happy if the wild grasses could move into your home and with them a little piece of Swiss nature.

Some pictures should give an insight into the process of creation. You can find more about the work of Atelier Mirla at www.ateliermirla.com.
